Healing Therapy
Joan Carpenter is a therapist and practitioner of body work, meditation, visualisation, self-inquiry, and journaling. Her practice, Listening Hands Therapy, focuses on the heart-felt connection of body, mind, and spirit; and the support, enhancement, and guidance that connection provides. These body-led sessions are uniquely individual to each client – guided by what they need at the time. The client’s body leads the way for the release, an ‘unwinding’ of tension, discomfort, trauma, and pain. As the therapist, Joan is present, paying attention to what the body is showing her and ‘listening’ to it with her hands.
Joan Carpenter’s services include Biodynamic Cranial Touch and Myofascial Release, which she began her journey with in 2007. In 2010, Joan began training with Giorgia Milne and Biodynamic Cranial Touch. This transformed her practice, ‘Listening Hands Therapy’, into what it is today.
Joan Carpenter has been involved in massage since 1989, and holds the below qualifications:
- Diploma of Remedial Massage
- Diploma of Craniosacral Therapy
- Craniosacral Therapy/Myofascial Release, Levels 1 – 7

“Working with Hakomi has supported me to connect with my inner strength and to make clear decisions about how to move forward in my life, according to my values.” – Narayani
The Hakomi method uses mindfulness to create a safe container for the client, enabling present moment experience to be explored in a process known as assisted self study. The client is gently and respectfully encouraged to notice and bring awareness to internal sensations, images, memories, thoughts, emotions or impulses.
Through this process emotions can be explored, allowing integration to occur, insights to be gained and new forms of nourishment to be taken in.
